Kangleipal arrest protestors dispersed by police

MPHAL, May 10: Police dispersed a group of women protesting against the detention of MAFYF president Sapamcha Kangleipal while they were marching towards the chief minister`s bungalow.

The protestors were challenged by the police to come to court and defend the charge against Kangleipal.

Today at around 2.30 pm a group of women who were dropped at different locations near the chief minister`s bungalow by vans and auto-rickshaws attempted to carry out a protest in front of the chief minister`s official residence.

However, before they could reach the place the police intercepted and dispersed them towards Keishampat without much resistance from the women.

While dispersing the womenfolk, the police officer on duty asked the women to come to court on May 13 and defend the charge levelled against the MAFYF chief Kangleipal by the police.

Kangleipal, mention may be made, was taken into judicial custody till May 13 by the police after producing him before the cheif judicial magistrate, Imphal west.

In the meantime, a general body meeting of the MAFYF held today decided to intensify its agitation from tomorrow.

The meeting also decided to carry out mass dharna from tomorrow in other districts and also to continue the protest at the silent zone areas in Imphal city everyday until Kangleipal was released unconditionally.

On the other hand, condemnations on the police detention of Kangleipal and demands for his release are still reaching the media houses.

Many of them also threatened to join the protests if the government failed to listen to their demands.

Among the organizations are the Apunba Nupi Lup, Lairenkabi, UK road, Imphal west, Senapati District Meetei Social Development Committee, Motbung, Lamshang Makha Leikai Welfare Association, The Linthoigambi Women`s Welfare Association, Younf Farmers` Club, All Manipur Youth Protection Committee, Imphal, Eriepak Enaat Chanura Liosinglon, EECHAL, Yaiskul, Peace and Unity Club, Lamshang etc.
